and his friends Ben, Nobby and Clapper ?|
The hide-out in the bombed-site ?
Covent Garden a mad bustle of traffic, playing cricket in the alleys
and side-streets off Drury Lane with stumps chalked on a lamp-post ?
Ah, nostalgia !
Where is it all gone ?
Well, London centre's still there, tho' the area around Covent Garden's changed.
The bombed-sites are built over, but I hope kids still play in the streets off the main
roads. Criminals aren't as soft as they were then, or perhaps they weren't
then anyway. But the books still turn up from time to time on the second hand bookshop
shelves, slim little cheap editions, but with attractive wrappers, and for a while,
Joey and the gang haunt the streets of London again !
All the books were published by Nelson, as hardbacks with dustwrappers. The attractive dustwrappers were created by Terence Freeman, who also illustrated the books.
Details on these books can be found on the Titles pages.
The only foreign editions of which we are aware are the four published by
Lindqvist, in Sweden, and are illustrated on the publisher's page.
